Review: The Hero

The Hero The Hero by Donna Grant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Natalie Dixon has a meeting in Dallas with Oren Loughman the father of Owen Loughman, the man she fell in love with years and broke her heart when he ended things when they graduated high school. Now working for the Russian embassy an innocuous question from Oren about Ragnarok opens up a Pandora’s box,

Owen heads home to Dallas after being gone for six years when he arrives at his Uncle and Aunt’s house and finds them murdered. Owen and his two brothers believe their father’s dangerous missions in espionage are somehow to blame for the murders, just like the death of their mother years before.

Fate brings Natalie and Owen back together after 14 years and puts Natalie in the cross hairs of danger, the very reason he broke things off with her all those years ago.

Buckle up, this mystery/thriller roller coaster ride will leave you breathless, this audiobook never lets up, murder, mortal hand to hand combat, kidnapping, espionage, scorching hot sex, and three patriotic alpha brothers, what more can a girl ask for? The Hero, nicely wraps up Owen and Natalie’s story arc, but it’s just the beginning of the Loughman family saga, I’m excited to hear what happens next with Owen’s two brothers who have some serious daddy issues to solve.

Carly Robin narrates and she does a good job voicing all of the characters in this book, she expertly expresses the emotions of the scenes, without being over the top, the audio production of this book is of the highest quality.

This audiobook was gifted to me exchange for an unbiased review!

Review: Meet Me in the Dark

Meet Me in the Dark Meet Me in the Dark by J.A. Huss
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

On the cover of this book, it says a dark suspense, and that's what it is and it's not an understatement! The story centers around Sydney and Merc, they first meet up when Sydney is seventeen, begging Merc to save her from bad guy boyfriend Garrett, but Merc is no hero and after roughing her up, he serves her up to Garrett on a silver platter, but he leaves an ominous message with her that he will be back, when she least expects it to finish her off.

Several years later, engaged to be married to a man named Brett, happiness is within her reach, but a feeling of dread overcomes her and she decides to run, unfortunately for her right into Merc’s clutches. Kidnapping her, Merc sets about breaking down Sydney and attempting to extract information from her about Garrett, who disappeared from her life without a trace years ago.

This book is a difficult listen and if you have triggers you’ll want to stay far away from this book, it’s a terrifying tale and there’s extreme violence, degradation, dubious consent, and explicit sexual content, this is more of a thriller/suspense novel but it does have romantic elements and an HEA, but you feel like you’ve been through war to get there!

The dual narration by Troy Duran and Anna Riordan was flawless, what they do really is acting and they both did a wonderful job. The audio production quality was first class and I look forward to listening to more from these narrators!

Review: Raven

Raven Raven by Scarlett Finn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story starts off with a bang! Good for us listeners bad for Zara Bandini, who's first date with Tim ends up being his last, literally, as he is shot dead while kissing her! Talk about a buzz kill.

Raven comes to her rescue, but is he really a good guy or just using Zara to get her to spill the goods on her boss?

So begin Zara's spiral into deceit, intrigue and the hidden motives of her boss Grant.

This is such a good book and I enjoyed it very much. This is the first audiobook that I've listened to from both Scarlett Finn, the author and Tieran Wilder who is the narrator, Tieran did a good job voicing the many different characters, the only thing that bothered me was her voicing of Zara when she was excited, whether she was in bed making love or if she was in danger fearing for her life, it was very screechy. She just needs to tone it down a bit.

I can't wait for the next installment!

Review: For 100 Days

For 100 Days For 100 Days by Lara Adrian
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed Lara Adrian's paranormal romance series Midnight Breed and knowing that this new series was a contemporary romance, I was intrigued but also a little apprehensive about her foray into more traditional romance and so this audiobook languished on my wish list for over a month before I finally purchased it. I lament that hesitation, I should have known better! Lara knows what she's doing and I loved this book!

Avery Ross’ apartment building is being renovated and she is facing eviction,

working at a local bar, she lucks upon a patron whose in need of a house sitter, Avery gratefully accepts the four-month assignment. Unbeknownst to her the apartment is in a swanky high rise. Once she arrives at the building she literally runs right into Nick Baine who lives in the building's penthouse, soon sparks fly, and they both fall hard, but Avery, in addition to not telling Nick she's just housesitting, she has secrets about her past that she can't bring herself to tell him. Nick craves absolute trust, but he's not above teaching Avery how to trust him through the use of bondage, but he senses that Avery is still hiding something from him, let the drama begin!

Warnings, this book is sexually explicit, has light BDSM elements, and has a cliffhanger, either I'm getting used to cliffhangers or writers are getting better at closing a story line so you don't feel cheated. Either way, I didn't mind it and there was just enough of a tease to make you excited for the next book, good job Lara!

This audiobook has superior audio quality and the narration by Summer Morton is excellent, buy or credit you'll be happy.

Obsession By Ann Mayburn

obsessionbtbanner obsession5 Synopsis This is a STANDALONE dark(ish) erotic romance with insta-obsession between two damaged soulmates(no cheating-HEA-no cliffhanger) Hannah All my life, I've only wanted one thing: someone to love me and someone who will let me love them in return. This seems like a simple request, but I was born to parents who wished I had died of childhood leukemia, instead of my younger sister, and who have ignored me no matter how much I've tried to please them. I'm starved for affection, addicted to the feeling when someone cares about me, which has led to a love life filled with either boys I've scared off, or men all too eager to take advantage of me. I thought I would never find a man who could feed my craving for constant attention--and then I met Leo. He fills the void inside of me, haunts my dreams, and does things to me in bed that are so good, they're probably illegal. I can only pray I don't scare him off once he figures out just how needy I really am. Leo There are very few people in this world I've ever been able to form an emotional attachment to, but the moment I saw Hannah, I knew she was mine. We were bound together by fate, our paths crossing first as children, then as adults, each time marking me. She doesn't know it but I've been watching her for a year now, studying her, stacking the deck so when I do make my move, there's no way she'll ever escape me. But my world is a harsh, cruel place, and the cartel I work for demands absolute loyalty and trust...a loyalty Hannah has yet to earn in the dangerous eyes of my employers. There is only one way to ensure Hannah's absolute devotion, and I hope that she doesn't hate me forever when she finds out that not only have I brainwashed her into loving me, but that I don't feel an ounce of guilt about doing it. She's mine, only mine, and I'm keeping her forever. Warning: This story features a rough and demanding Dom who's completely devoted to bringing his baby girl pleasure through such unconventional means as spanking, mild BDSM, D/S, roleplaying, and various other forms of wicked kinkery. Blurb
The summer I graduated from high school, I raced out of my small Virginian town to seek my culinary dreams in the big city. I couldn’t afford New York City, though, so I settled in Philadelphia. The City of Brotherly Love wasn’t The Big Apple, but it had its charms and pockets of culinary splendor. I hadn’t minded because it was only temporary. After culinary school, I planned to do as I’d been dying to do since I was a little girl and roam the earth and splurge on its fruits.

More than five years later, I was still in Philly, living with the same roommate I’d had when I had first moved, working as a pastry chef in a bakery across the bridge in New Jersey, and I had Cade. Caden was my on and off again boyfriend of four years. I loved him, even when I hated him.

Our relationship was hot and cold, hard and fast, sexy and heartbreaking. It wasn’t until I was with Caden that I understood that passion could be just as terrible as it was beautiful. I didn’t know until him that passion could make you burn as well as burn you. Being with Caden was like being addicted to thrill-seeking adventures. You know there is a danger in it, and it makes your heart race and adrenaline pump into your body. Sometimes you nail it and the rush is breathtaking and amazing. Sometimes you miss, and there is fear and regret in your heart as you fall to the unforgiving ground.

After one particularly hard fall, I went home to Virginia for a long weekend. That was where I became reacquainted with my brother’s old college friend Connor. That’s when I learned that passion could be a slow, sweet burn.

And it could incinerate me and turn me to ashes.

Broken Innocence Boxed Set: The Entire Alpha Billionaire Romance Series Books 1-5: Complete Box Set Of Alpha Billionaire Romance Series Broken Innocence Boxed Set: The Entire Alpha Billionaire Romance Series Books 1-5: Complete Box Set Of Alpha Billionaire Romance Series by Bridget Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Erotica is like a box of chocolate, some are good, but most you take one bite and throw the rest out,

this audiobook was a pleasant surprise! It’s that magical piece of chocolate that makes the whole box worth the money you spent. It's the elusive golden ticket of erotica.

The story centers around Stacy Caldwell, a wunderkind who arrives at the Lennox Advertising firm and catches the eye of owner and CEO Henry Lennox and her manager Michael Cavanaugh I know what you’re thinking “This story has been told over and over again ad nauseam” but this one is different, the author really does a good job fleshing out the characters, really it’s more of a psychological study of a conflicted woman, torn between wanting to be love and wanting to satisfy her masochistic tendencies and the two men who fulfill different needs. The characters are flawed and sometimes you’re not sure who you should be rooting for!

Of course this is erotica and the sex scenes are numerous and very graphic, that’s to be expected, but the quality of the writing is uncommonly good and the narration and production is top notch too. I have never heard of this author but I’m impressed.

Looking for good quality erotica? This is it!

Review: Friction

Friction Friction by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This isn't the first book that I've listened to by Sawyer Bennett, it's not the first that I've enjoyed, but this book is in a league of its own!

Leary Michaels is a partner at a law firm that champions the little guy and she has no losses in her column. She's relentless and her new case seeking justice for her client in a botched operation is no different. Enter big wig corporate lawyer Reeve Holloway, the defense attorney for the douche bag surgeon. When they bump into each other outside the courthouse, it's a calculate move on Leary's part, and while she hands him her ripped silk stocking in the elevator, in the courtroom she promptly hands him his ass.

What Leary doesn't expect is the intense attraction between herself and Reeve. Soon they began a questionable but unstoppable relationship, trying desperately to keep their private and work relationship separate. It's hard to do when Leary, secretly has much more than a professional interest invested in the case!

This story is has it all humor, heat and heartbreak.

I listened to the audio version of this book and I loved the narration by Sebastian York but Kendall Taylor's narration just seemed a bit too girlish. So I had to deduct a star on the performance. I would have been happier if Sebastian had narrated the whole audiobook.

Don't hesitate to download this gem of a story, you'll be happy you did!

TETHERED By LD Davis

TETHERED

By LD Davis
Narrated By Kate Udall

L.D. Davis hits it out the park with this companion book to the Accidentally On Purpose Series, you don’t necessarily need to read AOP to listen to this story, but I think you would get more perspective if you do.

The two main characters in this novel are Donya Stewart and Emmet Grayne, If you’ve haven’t read AOP Emmett is the brother of Emmy the main character in the AOP trilogy, and Donya is her best friend since childhood. If you have read AOP you’ll recall that Donya’s the one that wanted to go kick Kyle’s ass when she discovers that he abused Emmy! That’s Donya in a nutshell, she says what she means and means what she says, sometimes to her own detriment!

This audio-book is over 18 hours of pure enjoyment, it starts off when Donya is a mere child of five and Emmy befriends Donya at school, Donya and Emmy are polar opposites, Donya is poor, black, and an only child of indifferent parents, Emmy is middle class, white and comes from a large loving family.

Oh, side note!

for a

This book is the correct way to write an multicultural romance! Race is noted as a natural part of the story but by no means drives the story, after all, the differences between race are mainly cultural. Noting something done within a culture is expected, rather than concentrating on the differences of skin color or race.

Donya’s home life is a misery, her mother suffers from depression and does the barest minimum to provide for Donya, her father is an in-consistence presence and always “working”.

Emmy’s family takes Donya under their wings and fully embrace her as part of their family, when Donya meets Emmy’s older brother Emmet there is an instant connection between the two, even at 5 years old! Donya is an old soul and wise beyond her years. Emmet feels this connection too, and as they grow up, he is the protector of both Emmy and Donya, the bond between them only grows stronger with time and tethers them together through thick and thin.

Emmet’s family looks upon Donya as another daughter or sister, but as adolescence comes into play, things change between Donya and Emmet, because of their age difference, Emmet hasn’t just been sitting on the sidelines waiting for Donya, he does what any red blooded American boy does, he dates and eventually has a serious girlfriend, Shelley. In the course of time Emmet breaks off his relationship with Shelley, and as Donya grows older they succumb to the attraction that’s always been there, but they do so in secret knowing that the family would be shocked that Emmet is dating his “sister”.

In the meantime Donya’s becoming quite a beauty and people are starting to take notice. Emmet’s parents see potential in Donya and offer to finance her bid to become a model, at first she is reluctant, but when they tell her that they've spoken with her mother and have her blessing, she grateful accepts their help.

Of course just as soon as things start heating up for our lovebirds, Emmet is heading off to college, these star crossed lover vow to not let distance separate them. One week before Emmet leaves for college, they attend a party and Emmet’s ex- girlfriend, Shelley, confides in Donya that she’s hopeful that while away at college they can rekindle their relationship and then delivers some devastating news about their past, Donya’s too young to handle the situation maturely and volatile way she confronts Emmet leads their bond to fracture in a serious way, Donya is sorry but unable to face Emmet and he leaves for college without saying goodbye and as Donya’s rising modeling career starts to takes control, they slip from each others life.

And so begins the near misses and lost chances that litter this book! This story is told over several years and the tether between these two that stretches to the breaking point but alway snaps back, even through a subsequent loveless marriage by Emmet and Donya’s marriage to a man who adamant about not having children. As Donya and Emmet struggle to find a way back to one another, heartache, bitter regrets and shattered dreams are in store for everyone concerned.

On the Elsie Meter Rating Scale Of 1 to 10,  I give Tethered an 8. The superb writing we are use to with LD Davis and a great job narrating by Kate Udall.
